'Does Apocalypse have psychic powers/powers of suggestion?' Just came out of X-Men, and I feel like I understand all the competing opinions on this movie: I can see why people hated it, and I can see why people felt it was harmless fun, but I have one question that is bugging the hell out of me, and I feel like I can't form an opinion on the film until I understand it: There was so much potential in this movie and though it was ambitious, perhaps they should have aimed a little lower. I'm really hoping they fare better on the next one, if there is one. He was so much better than the rest of the flat characters. It was almost as if he was written by a different person entirely, his lines were unique and conveyed the character well. That said, the characterization of Quicksilver was great. (Also I have no idea what Mystique's journey was in this movie) I get that the movie had a lot of content it wanted to get through, with a whole new cast of characters but it was a shame to see Magneto treated so poorly. And if anything, this was the most poorly done version of his twists and turns. Magneto has been such an interesting character in this reboot, but this movie just went through the same cycle that we've seen him go through in previous movies. For the movie to have an emotional impact on the audience, we needed to believe Magneto's turn to evil and then back to good. The lines were really clunky most of the time and felt more like Kinberg was going for "epic" moments instead of believable ones. My biggest problem with the movie lies in its script. There are some really great moments in there but overall, not good. I was really looking forward to this movie, but it just did not hold up.
